StepUp Grant for Katy

2013_stepup_katyKaty Hurt from Windlesham has been awarded a StepUp grant to help her to further her ambition to become a singer.  StepUp is a small grants programme run by the Windle Valley Youth Project, which aims to celebrate, encourage and support success in young people.

Katy used the grant to attend River Studios (E Minor Pop Academy) in Southampton where she learnt stage techniques, dancing, and singing with a group, which has given her more confidence to stand on stage as a solo artist.  Katy says,’’Even though it was hard work travelling every day to Southampton I looked forward to joining the other artists and learning to interact as part of a group.  I am more comfortable on stage now.’’

Katy’s singing is growing from strength to strength; she has made it through to Regional Finals for TeenStar 2013, taking place on Sunday 7th April at Sub89 in Reading.  If she gets through these, she goes on to Area Finals in Hayes Middlesex, then the O2.

She now has 10 original tracks and is due to go into a recording studio in Sheffield to work with a music producer who likes her sound and wants to produce her first album.  She has also performed at the Half Moon Pub in Windlesham with Ivan Chandler.
